Job Description
Senior Accountant (Contract‑to‑Hire) - Nonprofit OrganizationPosition OverviewThe Senior Accountant serves as a key member of the Finance team, responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and supporting organizational decision‑making. This contract‑to‑hire role is ideal for a mission‑driven professional with strong technical accounting skills and experience in nonprofit finance, fund accounting, and grant compliance.
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge is preferred but not required.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Ledger Oversight — Maintain and reconcile all GL accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards.
Month‑End Close — Lead monthly closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reconciliations.
Financial Reporting — Prepare internal and external financial statements, dashboards, and management reports.
Grant & Contract Accounting — Track restricted funds, prepare grant budgets, monitor spending, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and private funder requirements.
Budget Development — Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting; collaborate with program leaders to analyze variances.
Audit Preparation — Serve as a primary liaison during annual audits; prepare schedules, documentation, and reconciliations.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight — Review AP/AR transactions, ensure proper coding, and maintain vendor and donor records.
Cash Management — Monitor cash flow, prepare cash projections, and reconcile bank accounts.
Payroll Review — Review payroll allocations, benefits, and related journal entries.
Internal Controls — Strengthen financial controls, documentation, and compliance processes.
System & Process Improvement — Recommend and implement improvements to accounting workflows and reporting.
Blackbaud Financial Edge — Utilize the system for reporting and GL management (experience preferred but not required).Cross‑Department Collaboration — Partner with program, development, and operations teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
