Full Job Description Overview:
The Project Accountant will provide accounting and project management support for the Construction and Development teams from initiation through completion. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring accurate cost tracking, compliance with internal controls, and timely reporting to support project management and senior leadership. The position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented.
Responsibilities:
Manage AIA billing processes in collaboration with the construction team Set up and track project costs across multiple entities and job phases, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and contracts Monitor project budgets, forecasts, commitments, and actual costs Coordinate with construction and development teams to ensure timely approval of payables and contracts within the accounting system Prepare and analyze monthly job cost reports and variance analyses for project managers Monitor project costs, profitability, and financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management Prepare and submit monthly lender draw packages, including supporting schedules and backup documentation Track Lender Draw funding timelines; ensure timely receipt of funds and distribution to vendors Review and process all project vendor invoices; verify proper coding, supporting documentation, contract compliance, and lien waiver submissions Review and approve project budgets, change orders, and financial forecasts Maintain all project vendor contacts and payment instructions in accounting system Support month-end close, including journal entries, project related accruals, and bank reconciliations Support the preparation of WIP schedules, loan reconciliations and amortization schedules, and development reporting packages Maintain and make recommendations for improvements to internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies Assist in the administrative, organizational, or ad hoc duties as they relate to the construction and development team as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 3-5+ years of relevant experience in project accounting within real estate development and/or construction environments Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, AIA billing, and the development draw process Proficiency with Yardi Voyager; experience with Yardi Job Cost module is highly preferred Familiarity with construction contracts and loan funding processes Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and drive resolution independently
