Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Accounting and Financial Reporting is responsible for managing the accounting, financial, and tax reporting activities for the Federation and its supporting foundations, which total around 50 organizations, including the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Supporting Foundation (MSF). In addition, they will lead internal and external audits and staff the Audit Committee for MSF, prepare and review quarterly financial reporting for consolidation, and assist with oversight of daily operations and internal control of the Finance department. This position is full-time and reports to the Managing Director, Accounting and Financial Reporting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Oversight for all aspects of MSF, including cash management, grant processing, accounting, review of legal documents, financial reporting, tax filings, audit process, and staffing Audit and Investment Committee meetings. 2. Review and analysis of quarterly financial reporting for consolidation. 3. Oversight of accounting and operations for finance department. Supervise 2 staff directly. 4. Supervise the Tax Director to coordinate accurate and timely preparation of tax return filings for Federation, its supporting foundations, and charitable trusts. Review of Federation's 990 and 990-T. 5. Serve as financial staff responsible for Jewish Community Housing and Consortia, including tax filings, budgets, and financial reporting for annual meetings. 6. Other duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
1. Developed knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 2. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities. 3. Ability to read and interpret accounting reports, draft reports, business correspondence. 4. Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines. 5. High degree of initiative and independent judgment. 6. High degree of confidence with technology and experience with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel. 7. High attention to detail, follow-up, self-motivated, proactive, and solution focused. 8. Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing. 9. Ability to function in a high volume, performance-oriented environment. 10. Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with colleagues and the general public in a personable and professional manner. Education, Training and/or
Experience:
1. Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in accounting required. 2. 8+ years of work experience in accounting positions required.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in public accounting as an auditor or working in accounting with a non-profit organization. 2. Experience with tax return preparation, especially Form 990. 3. Experience with NetSuite and Salesforce. 4. Team building skills; organizational and staff development skills.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
1. Certified Public Accountant ("CPA") or CPA eligible preferred.
