This role plays a key part in month‑end close, billing oversight, financial reporting, and supporting Project Managers with accurate, timely project financial data. Working directly under the CFO, this role ensures the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of Luminant's accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who is technically strong, eager to grow, and interested in developing into a finance leader over time. This position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with exposure to leadership, project accounting, and financial operations. It is intentionally designed for a high-potential accountant who wants to grow into a Director of Finance role within 5-7 years as the firm evolves. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly close activities including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting Manage project‑related financials: budgets, labor hours, consultant invoices, reimbursable, and budget-to-actual tracking Prepare and review client invoices, ensuring compliance with contract terms and accurate project progress reporting Partner with Project Managers to provide project performance updates, fee analysis, and cost tracking Support AR, AP, and cash flow activities as needed Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial accuracy Accounting & Financial Operations Lead weekly, monthly, and annual close processes Prepare, post, and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP Maintain accurate general ledger activity, balance sheets, and account reconciliations Analyze financial data and identify inconsistencies, risks, and improvement opportunities Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting Senior Accountant & Project Accounting Support Reconcile cash accounts and review monthly bank statements Prepare monthly account reconciliations and variance analyses Partner with project teams on job setup, budget uploads, and change management Support project cost tracking, revenue recognition, and forecasting Monitor cash position and assist with cash flow planning Growth & Future Development Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling Contribute to process improvements and system standardization Gradually assume expanded financial leadership responsibilities over time Development toward controller-level and Director of Finance responsibilities as the firm grows This position is in office and only available in our Cincinnati, OH location.
Industry:
Architecture and Planning CPA Required Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance Business or related field 5+ years of accounting experience; experience in architecture/engineering/design/professional services preferred Strong project accounting skills are required Proficiency with accounting/project management systems (Ajera/Deltek experience a plus) Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v‑lookup/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, analysis) Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to meet deadlines Confidentiality with all data and information
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
