Lumber & Logging Industry Job Type:

Controller / Accounting Manager Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in the lumber and logging industry. This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with the monthly financial close process . The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, comfortable working with numbers, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in the lumber, logging, forestry, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, or other natural-resource industries is a plus, but not required. Key Responsibilities Assist with the preparation and completion of the monthly financial close . Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other standard entries. Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts. Review accounting records for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed. Assist with customer invoicing, vendor payments, and collection activities. Maintain accurate records for equipment, vehicles, inventory, and other company assets. Assist with inventory and lumber-related accounting, including inventory adjustments and reconciliation of physical counts when applicable. Assist with accounting for logging operations, timber purchases, hauling, equipment costs, fuel, repairs, and other operating expenses. Review and reconcile transactions between operating locations, companies, or related entities. Assist with payroll-related accounting and account reconciliations. Prepare various financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for management. Assist with year-end financial statement preparation and the annual audit or tax preparation process. Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions. Maintain organized supporting documentation for financial transactions. Assist the Controller/Accounting Manager with special projects and financial analysis as needed. Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information. Qualifications 2+ years of accounting experience preferred. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and general ledger accounting. Experience with monthly financial close and account reconciliations . Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and basic spreadsheet functions. Experience with accounting software or ERP systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good organizational and time-management skills. Ability to meet deadlines and work independently. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally. Industry Experience - Preferred Experience in any of the following industries is a plus: Lumber and sawmill operations Logging and timber Forestry Wood products or manufacturing Trucking and hauling Construction Equipment operations Agriculture or other natural-resource industries What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and understands that accurate accounting is essential to running a successful operation.
