Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will oversee various accounting functions, including grant management, financial reporting, and compliance monitoring. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in accounting who is eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the full lifecycle of grants, including budget planning, financial monitoring, reporting, and closeout processes.
- Oversee grant expenditures to ensure they align with agreements, funding guidelines, and applicable regulations.
- Prepare and submit accurate financial reports and reimbursement requests for grants within established deadlines.
- Reconcile grant accounts and maintain accurate records of restricted funds.
- Provide documentation and financial support during grant audits and site visits.
- Perform general ledger tasks such as posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end close processes.
- Handle accounts payable and receivable, ensuring proper expense coding to grants and funds.
- Assist with payroll allocations related to grants and restricted funding sources.
- Maintain financial records in compliance with organizational and regulatory policies.
- Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, audit schedules, and budgeting forecasts for grants and operations. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in accounting, with a preference for nonprofit or grant accounting expertise.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Experience with corporate tax, sales tax, and preparing corporate tax returns.
- Familiarity with journal entries and general ledger processes.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.
