- Evaluate monthly financial performance by project and division, identify variances, and work with project leaders to keep spending and timelines aligned with expectations.
- Produce periodic management reports that summarize financial results, highlight trends, and support leadership decision-making.
- Contribute to the month-end close cycle by preparing journal entries, reviewing general ledger activity, and completing account reconciliations.
- Track costs related to employee benefit programs, including healthcare, pension, and other fringe expense categories, and report notable budget impacts.
- Advise division leadership and project teams on accounting treatment, grant-related financial practices, and contract-level financial administration.
- Improve reporting tools and budget analyses to help monitor organization-wide expenditures and forecast cost patterns more effectively.
- Assist with annual audit and compliance efforts by gathering schedules, preparing supporting documentation, and responding to information requests.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and support related technical accounting analysis.
- Support cross-functional finance operations, including payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and grant administration, while contributing to special projects and process improvements. Requirements The ideal Senior Accountant will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close activities, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting practices, and internal control concepts.
- Proficiency with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets, and standard business software applications.
- Ability to analyze financial data, interpret results, and present findings in a clear and organized manner.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Government audit experience within a public accounting environment is preferred.
- Experience performing bank reconciliations and supporting audit, compliance, or grant-related accounting activities is preferred.
