$20/ hour At Vitalant, every role plays a part in helping save and improve lives. As an Accounting Intern , you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the financial operations that help power our lifesaving mission. This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals across general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax functions while contributing to initiatives that support Vitalant's strategic goals and nationwide impact. Through meaningful projects and day-to-day responsibilities, interns will strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills, build a solid foundation in corporate accounting, and gain valuable exposure to the nonprofit healthcare industry. With guidance and mentorship from leaders and teammates, the intern will assist with invoice and payment processing, customer invoicing and collections, account reconciliations, journal entries, and department efficiency projects. Additional responsibilities may include providing administrative and operational support to the accounting team in support of Vitalant's mission-driven work. This part-time role offers fully flexible scheduling Monday through Thursday, with opportunities to work 16-24 hours per week based on your availability during the Summer break. This internship will work on-site at our Scottsdale, AZ office - remote or hybrid options are not available. As an Accounting Intern , you'll get to: Process invoices, check requests, and scheduled payments within the financial system Support customer billing activities, including invoice entry, report review, and error resolution Assist with accounts receivable collections and monitoring aging reports for assigned customer accounts Prepare account reconciliations and support month-end close activities, including variance analysis Create journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting Contribute to special projects including audits, tax filings, 1099 preparation, and nonprofit reporting support Provide administrative and operational support to help improve accounting processes and efficiencies
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge/ Education Currently enrolled in a full or part-time bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent. Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing. Concentration in accounting, finance, business administration and/or non-profit management. Experience Experience with Microsoft applications, most importantly Excel. Skills/Abilities Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of basic accounting and financial principles. Effective communication and organizational skills. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong team mentality and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on assignments.
