This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k). Job Description Addison Group is seeking an experienced Project Accountant for a large, established organization in Sterling, VA. This position will support the financial management of construction projects by overseeing job costing, billing, project financial analysis, vendor compliance, and project-level accounting activities. The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure accurate billing, cost tracking, financial reporting, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have hands-on construction project accounting experience, strong knowledge of multiple contract billing structures, and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. This position is expected to be fully on-site during the initial training period, with the potential for limited work-from-home flexibility after approximately six months. Responsibilities Coordinate accounting activities for large and complex construction projects. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly project billings in accordance with contract requirements. Manage billing under multiple contract structures, including lump-sum, cost-plus, and guaranteed maximum price arrangements. Monitor project costs and compare actual results against established budgets. Perform project cost reconciliations and investigate significant variances. Maintain accurate project budgets, cost codes, commitments, and financial information. Produce and analyze job cost reports to evaluate project performance and profitability. Track project revenue, costs, billings, and cash flow throughout the project lifecycle. Partner closely with Project Managers to review project financial status and identify potential issues. Prepare and maintain project status reports and supporting financial schedules. Identify and resolve project-related accounting discrepancies in a timely manner. Manage vendor and subcontractor compliance documentation. Review and track Certificates of Insurance, lien waivers, retention, W-9s, bonds, and other required project documentation. Ensure vendor documentation is complete and compliant before payment processing. Support project risk management through accurate documentation and financial controls. Assist with change orders and ensure changes are appropriately reflected in project budgets and billings. Support month-end close activities related to assigned projects. Maintain accurate project information within the accounting and project management systems. Assist with project closeout and ensure financial records and compliance documentation are complete. Collaborate with Accounting, Operations, Project Management, and other internal teams. Assist with special projects and process-improvement initiatives as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. At least three years of project accounting experience required. Previous project accounting experience within the construction industry required. Hands-on experience with lump-sum billing required. Experience with cost-plus and guaranteed maximum price contract structures required. Strong knowledge of construction job costing and project financial reporting.
