This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead complex financial reporting processes, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and contribute to the overall financial health of our organization. Duties Prepare and review comprehensive financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other state statutory guidelines. Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations, reviewing and approving journal entries, and ledger maintenance using accounting software such as Great Plains and Tyler. Balance and reconcile department records, review financial reports to identify and trace sources of errors and research irregularities, and make reports, adjustments/corrections as directed. Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data. Perform bank reconciliations and complex sales tax reporting. Mentor junior team members by providing guidance on technical accounting issues. Recommends improvements in the accounting system, processes, and internal controls. Support internal audits and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and facilitating audit procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word for data analysis is essential. Extensive experience in general ledger accounting with a focus on financial statement preparation and analysis. Must have strong time management skills to meet deadlines on time-sensitive projects. Demonstrated ability to mentor team members while managing multiple deadlines effectively. Ability to multitask while working in a fast-paced office environment with interruptions, adherence to strict deadlines, and minimal supervision. Ability to analyze financial information, provide an assessment or interpretation of the information, and recommend actions based on the analysis. Ability to analyze budgetary and financial data for all governmental fund types, proprietary fund types, and fiduciary funds, including grants, debt service, proprietary, agency, and capital project funds, and be able to provide relevant comments to management. Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail; strong understanding of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, debits & credits, and financial management principles. Education and Qualifications Five (5) years of experience in the application of accounting principles, techniques, and theories; and Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a closely related field; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience. CPA may substitute for 2 years of experience. Experience in a large governmental or nonprofit organization preferred. Governmental financial certifications preferred (CCFO, CGFM).

Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
