Senior Tax Accountant Job Description The Senior Tax Accountant performs comprehensive tax services for individual and business clients, including planning, preparation, review, research, and consulting. This role manages communications with tax authorities at the federal, state, and local levels, collaborates closely with clients and internal team members on compliance matters, and identifies opportunities to expand services. The Senior Tax Accountant also provides training and mentoring to staff, assumes leadership responsibilities within the department, and represents the firm at professional and organizational events while building a strong network of referral sources. Responsibilities Perform tax services for individual and business clients, including tax planning, tax return and report preparation, review, research, and consulting. Handle all communications with tax authorities at the federal, state, and local levels, ensuring accurate and timely responses. Interact with client personnel to gather tax return information and manage due dates, deadlines, and other compliance requirements. Keep team members informed about client status, filing timelines, and compliance issues to ensure coordinated service delivery. Identify opportunities to provide additional services to existing and prospective clients and communicate these opportunities to appropriate stakeholders. Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to staff to support their professional growth and ensure high-quality work. Communicate effectively with firm leadership, analyze tax and accounting issues, and recommend practical solutions. Assume leadership opportunities within the department, contributing to process improvements and best practices. Act as a firm representative at professional and organizational events and actively develop a network of referral sources. Use tax-preparation software and related tools to prepare and review tax returns accurately and efficiently. Conduct online tax research to resolve complex tax issues and support advisory services. Maintain strong client relationships by delivering responsive, high-quality service and addressing client needs promptly. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting. A minimum of 5 years' experience performing tax services in a CPA firm. Experience performing tax services for individual and business clients, including planning, preparation, review, research, and consulting. Proficiency in MS Office programs. Proficiency with tax-preparation software, with the ability to learn and use firm-specific tools. Experience with online tax research tools and methods. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with clients, team members, and leadership. Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain long-term client relationships. Strong analytical and research skills to interpret tax laws and regulations and apply them to client situations. Ability to meet challenging client requirements and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated and driven, with the ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships through consistent, high-quality service. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred. Experience with Axcess tax-preparation software is a plus. Experience representing a firm at professional and organizational events. Experience identifying and developing new service opportunities for clients. Experience training, mentoring, or supervising staff in a tax or accounting environment. Familiarity with federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements for individuals and businesses. Interest in professional networking and building a referral network. Bonus potential may be available based on performance and firm policies. Work Environment This is an in-office role with a standard Monday through Friday schedule. The position operates in a professional office environment that relies on MS Office, tax-preparation software (including Axcess as a plus), and online tax research tools to deliver services. The role involves regular interaction with clients, team members, and firm leadership, as well as participation in professional and organizational events as a firm representative. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
