The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in the Company's accounts receivable process and other day-to-day accounting operations, to include accounts and brokerage payable, ensuring transactions are recorded in compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). This role is based in South Norwalk, CT and reports to the AVP, Business Controller. We value culture and flexibility, and our organization has adopted a hybrid working model that requires three days in the office
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Own the end-to-end cash application process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Daily, monitor all the Company's cash receipts and apply payments against the appropriate customer balances Prepare monthly Deferred Call Member billings and distribute invoices and supporting documents Review and reconcile all receivable balances on a monthly basis Monitor AR aging and proactively address discrepancies and collection issues Colloboratively work with the Member Service Representatives (MSRs), Banking Specialist, or other internal departments to answer questions from insureds and resolve any discrepancies or issues Assist with the annual Supplemental Call calculations and related customer billings Oversee the Finance Department's role in the payroll audit process by working closely with the Company's payroll auditor(s) to track and review audits, and issue payroll audits debit or credit notes to Members, as necessary Support the review of Member financial statements and maintenance of security Work closely with Banking Specialist to properly account for and transfer all security related balances Provide MSRs and Underwriters with financial data, or review balances included in customer communications, upon request Produce reports or other support for the Company's external auditors in support of the annual audit Assist with the full AP cycle, including invoice review, coding, and processing. Ensuring timely and accurate payment processing and strong vendor relationship management, and maintaining vendor records and resolving invoice discrepancies timely Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including the preparation of account reconciliations with appropriate supporting documentation, as needed Constantly view current processes with a critical eye and suggest areas for improvement Assist with projects or ad hoc requests from Management, as necessary
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 2-5 years of hands-on accounting experience (AR experience strongly preferred) Understanding of basic accounting principles/fundamentals and transaction flows Proficiency in Excel; experience with accounting ERP systems (Workday strongly preferred) Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to manage responsibilities independently and meet deadlines
