COO Position Summary Consolidated Personnel Services, Inc. (CPS), a growing Professional Employer Organization (PEO), is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to support our multi-entity accounting operations. This role plays a critical part in month-end close, reconciliations, and financial accuracy , while working closely with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams The ideal candidate is process-driven, highly accurate, and capable of independently owning portions of the close cycle , while continuously identifying risks and opportunities for improvement. What You'll Do Support month-end close process across multiple entities Prepare and post adjusting journal entries Perform balance sheet reconciliations with supporting documentation Reconcile prepaid expenses and accrual accounts (including benefits and workers' compensation) Enter and reconcile intercompany transactions Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data across all systems Assist with W-2 and W-2c processing Respond to payroll tax and financial-related questions Partner with internal teams to deliver custom Excel-based reporting for clients and leadership Identify and flag unusual variances ( 10%) and investigate root causes Maintain audit-ready workpapers with clear documentation and support Performance Expectations Complete close tasks on time with minimal to no rework Demonstrate strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting in real scenarios Independently manage assigned entities and close responsibilities Proactively identify risk areas and inconsistencies before escalation Produce clean, well-supported reconciliations and journal entries Follow the month-end checklist consistently without reminders Why Join CPS Established PEO with 30+ years of stability and growth Leadership-focused culture with clear promotion pathways (Staff Senior Controller) Opportunity to work across multiple entities and complex accounting environments Strong emphasis on process, accountability, and professional development Culture focused on collaboration, professionalism, and compliance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred) Minimum 2+ years of accounting experience Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting systems Ability to analyze financial data and explain results clearly Core Competencies At CPS, we value team members who demonstrate: Accuracy & Reliability
