POSITION SUMMARY
The Sr. Grant Accountant reports to the Controller and directs the District's financial activities related to local, state and federal grant funds, as well as accounting for capital bond accounting Assists the Controller in developing procedures related to grant and bond workflows.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Point of contact for all federal, state and local grant funds from a fiscal perspective Establish UCOA accounts. Confirm compliance of UCOA accounts with Rhode Island Department of Education ("RIDE"). Reconcile grant expenditures, book corresponding revenues on a monthly basis Proactively apply for reimbursements for grant expenditures Work with stakeholders to establish grant and capital bond budgets Work with stakeholders to track spending against established budgets Provide audit support for the district's annual single audit (audit of federal program funding) Maintain schedules of district employees who are paid via grant and regularly confirm with HR/ Payroll that payments are correct Act as liaison to the City Finance department and WPS's Capital Projects Office to coordinate bond expenditures and reimbursements. Act as liaison to the Rhode Island Dept. of Education (RIDE) as it relates to Grant Programs. Provide regular reporting for the ongoing construction projects for the new high schools: Monitoring of daily grant cash receipts through bank accounts and the State of Rhode Island Monitors Indirect Cost Levels for applicable grant programs Reviews and approves grant funded purchases and expenditures All other duties assigned by the Director of Finance and the Controller.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least five years of progressive responsibility in a business office or accounting position with at least three years of grant-related finance/accounting experience required. High level interpersonal skills, ability to work with others collaboratively and demonstrated ability to plan, organize and carry out activities independently required. Strong work ethic, excellent verbal and written communications skills, excellent public relations skills, and the ability to thoroughly and quickly analyze and resolve complex problems required. Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Word, Access, Excel, Google Suite and PowerPoint and a thorough knowledge of federal and state accounting laws required.
EDUCATION
Bachelors in Finance or Accounting is required, Masters preferred. Knowledge, experience and understanding of fund accounting, UCOA account structure preferred.
