Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Oversee invoice processing, payment scheduling, and purchase order activity to keep accounts payable transactions accurate and timely.
- Manage incoming payments, customer or grant-related receivables tracking, and account balancing to support reliable cash flow reporting.
- Prepare and post journal entries, review general ledger activity, and investigate discrepancies to maintain clean financial records.
- Contribute to month-end close by completing reconciliations, analyzing variances, and assisting with the preparation of recurring financial statements.
- Record and reconcile cash activity, including receipts, deposits, and related ledger entries, to ensure proper documentation of all funds.
- Compare spending records against supporting documentation and maintain organized financial files for audit readiness and reporting accuracy.
- Review vendor invoices, confirm coding and approvals, accrue expenses when needed, and coordinate disbursements in accordance with policy.
- Support accounting needs for grant-funded programs, including transaction processing, reporting support, and adherence to funding requirements.
- Recommend practical improvements to accounting workflows, internal controls, and financial procedures to strengthen efficiency and compliance.
- Assist with special assignments and additional finance-related projects as business needs evolve. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in accounting or closely related coursework.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit, grant-funded, or public sector environments.
- Working knowledge of grant compliance, fund administration, and government funding guidelines, including budgeting and reporting expectations.
- Experience handling both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions with a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Abila MIP, Blackbaud Financial Edge, or similar financial systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, perform reconciliations, and resolve variances effectively.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and sensitive information professionally.
