Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will record financial transactions, reconcile various accounts, prepare standard reports, and support the monthly closing process through analysis, research, and process improvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Receives and processes invoices, including verification of goods received / services performed, and ensures that expenses are coded to the appropriate G/L accounts. Sets up new vendors and customers, including collecting and archiving appropriate supporting documentation. Processes customer returns and credit memos, including collection and archival of required supporting documentation. Responds to vendor and customer inquiries. Monitors company credit card activity, including the recording and coding of transactions. Coordinates monthly inventory counts and is instrumental in regular maintenance of standard costing. Makes internal control / process improvement recommendations. Prepares supporting reports for monthly closing process. Works closely with HR in processing payroll, maintaining employee records, and keeping information from multiple systems in sync. Makes approved journal entries and approved additions to the chart of accounts. Reconciles bank accounts as needed, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks. Assists with accounts receivable clean-up, customer collections, and remote check deposit as needed. Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual review / audit. Performs clerical tasks such as filing, applying postage, and mailing. Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a team player. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting. Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software. Experience using Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plus.
Education and Experience:
Associate degree in Accounting, or related field, required. Bachelor's degree preferred. At least one year of accounting experience required. Experience in manufacturing is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
