Contract-to-Hire Overview We are seeking a Staff to Senior-level Accountant for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a large, well-established organization within the municipal utilities sector. This role will support core accounting functions in a structured, regulated environment, including general ledger activity, financial reporting, and month-end close processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong in accounting principles, and comfortable working in a high-volume operational environment with established controls and procedures. Key Responsibilities Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data Assist with internal and external audit requests and documentation Analyze financial variances and provide explanations for reporting fluctuations Support budgeting and forecasting activities as needed Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls Collaborate with internal teams to resolve accounting discrepancies Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of financial records Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 2-7+ years of accounting experience (Staff through Senior level scope) Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles Experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting required Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis) Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar) preferred Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to work onsite in a structured, team-based environment Compensation & Structure Competitive hourly rate based on experience Contract-to-hire opportunity with potential for permanent conversion Full-time onsite schedule with standard business hours
