Job Description

Position Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and cash reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, while also supporting Helix's lease and fixed asset accounting within NetSuite. This position plays an important role in the monthly close process by helping ensure the general ledger is accurate, well-documented, and audit-ready. This is a hands-on individual contributor role ideal for an early-career accountant looking to build a strong foundation in general accounting while gaining exposure to areas such as lease accounting, fixed assets, cash management, and financial reporting. What You'll Do Journal Entries & General Ledger Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries across multiple accounts and cost centers Ensure journal entries are properly supported, coded, and documented in accordance with company policy Review and correct account coding and classification errors Maintain supporting schedules for accruals, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet entries Account Reconciliations Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations across a variety of accounts Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner Escalate unresolved or aged items as appropriate Maintain clear reconciliation documentation to support internal and external audit requests Cash Reporting Prepare daily and weekly cash position reports and bank activity summaries Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies between bank and book balances Monitor cash receipts and disbursements and identify unusual activity Support cash forecasting and liquidity reporting for Finance leadership Accounts Payable Review and code vendor invoices for accuracy and proper approval Process vendor payments and support timely, accurate disbursements Reconcile the accounts payable subledger to the general ledger monthly Respond to vendor inquiries and help resolve discrepancies Lease & Fixed Asset Accounting Assist with maintaining lease and fixed asset records in NetSuite Support monthly depreciation and lease amortization postings Reconcile lease and fixed asset subledgers to the general ledger Financial Close & Reporting Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close Assist with financial statement preparation and supporting schedules Support external auditors by providing schedules, reconciliations, and source documentation Controls & Process Improvement Follow established internal controls and accounting policies Identify opportunities to improve accuracy and close efficiency Assist with system enhancements, reporting improvements, and documentation standardization Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 0-2 years of general accounting experience; internship, co-op, or prior staff-level experience is welcome Exposure to or coursework in
U.S. GAAP
Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, or a strong academic foundation in these areas Working knowledge of ERP or accounting systems Solid Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, and account schedules Strong attention to detail and documentation Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines Preferred Qualifications NetSuite experience Prior internship or part-time experience in general ledger, AP/AR, treasury/cash, or fixed asset accounting Exposure to cash management or treasury reporting Exposure to audits, SOX, or internal controls Progress toward CPA licensure; CPA-track candidates are encouraged to apply What Will Help You Succeed Eagerness to learn and develop your technical accounting skills Strong analytical and organizational abilities Clear and professional communication Ability to meet close deadlines in a fast-paced environment Sound accounting judgment and attention to compliance Comfort asking questions and seeking guidance from senior team members
