Job Summary The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of MonkeySports' financial data. This position is responsible for a range of accounting functions including intercompany transactions, fixed asset management, account reconciliations, and support for month-end and year-end closings. The Staff Accountant ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls, contributing to the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.
Requirements:
Essential Job Functions Perform intercompany accounting and reconciliations across multiple entities. Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules in accordance with accounting standards. Prepare and maintain lease schedules and entries in line with ASC 842. Conduct monthly bank reconciliations, promptly identifying and resolving discrepancies. Reconcile key balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Identify areas for process improvement and assist in implementing best practices. Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements. Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely financial reporting. Collaborate with internal departments to support operational and financial reporting needs. Assist with documentation and coordination during internal and external audits. Additional Responsibilities and Requirements Provide ad hoc reporting and financial analysis for leadership as needed. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive financial information. Cognitive and Physical Demands Requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to perform critical thinking and independent judgment. Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend appropriate solutions. Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional lifting of light office supplies and documents (up to 25 lbs). Ability to focus and perform repetitive tasks with minimal error. Qualifications, Education, and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered. 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a retail or multi-entity environment. Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accounting systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP and ERP systems preferred. Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidated financial statements. Knowledge of lease accounting under ASC 842. Experience in retail accounting or sports industry is a plus. Familiarity with audit coordination and preparation Working Environment Primary work location is the MonkeySports Corporate Office in Allen, TX. Much of the accounting work involves sitting at a desk, using a computer for extended periods of time, and reviewing financial documents, spreadsheets, and reports.
