Job Description

PRIMARY DUTY
Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions under general direction. Supervises and manages assigned area of the department.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong knowledge in the application of governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements in financial/accounting transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices, and their application to a wide variety of accounting transactions and problems in municipal government accounting functions.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to municipal government finance.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced personal computer and software application skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft office, and ability to learn new computer information systems.
  • Skilled in compiling and preparing financial reports
  • Ability to implement and administer financial accounting systems
  • Effective supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing including use of good grammar and conveying information in a tactful, concise, and professional manner
  • Ability to organize assignments and multiple tasks, prioritize and work independently.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Must have polished and proven people skills with a focus of being able to interact well with a diverse population, provide excellent customer service, ability to diffuse conflict situations, and problem resolution.
  • Must have the ability to maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Must demonstrate excellent teamwork skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • At least four (4) years of government accounting experience preferred.
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
CPA/CGFO preferred
