Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Auditor performs accounting, financial, auditing, and administrative duties in support of the Leon County Auditor's Office. This position requires a high degree of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, integrity, and attention to detail . The successful applicant should be dependable, professional, able to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to: Reviewing and processing financial and accounting documentation; Assisting with accounts payable and expenditure review; Reviewing invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documentation for accuracy, proper authorization, and compliance; Assisting with account reconciliations and general ledger review; Preparing and maintaining spreadsheets, financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation; Assisting with budget monitoring and departmental financial records; Assisting with fixed asset records and physical inventories; Assisting with internal audits, cash counts, departmental reviews, and internal control procedures; Maintaining files, records, scanned documents, and other financial documentation; Communicating professionally with County officials and employees, vendors, outside agencies, and the public; Attending continuing education, conferences, professional development, and other job-related training as assigned; and Performing other accounting, auditing, financial, administrative, and related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Strong mathematical and analytical skills; Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a high degree of accuracy and integrity when working with financial information; Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information; Good written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team; Ability to prioritize assignments, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines; Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel ; and Ability and willingness to learn governmental accounting, budgeting, purchasing, auditing, and financial procedures. Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, governmental finance, accounts payable, purchasing, banking, or a related field is preferred but not required . Education or college coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred . Relevant education, training, and work experience may be considered in evaluating an applicant's qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAVEL
This position regularly requires extended periods of sitting and computer use and may require extended periods of standing or walking while conducting audits, inventories, cash counts, or departmental reviews. The position may occasionally require bending, reaching, and lifting, carrying, moving, or stocking office supplies, records, files, and boxes weighing up to approximately 25 pounds . Travel to other Leon County offices and facilities may be required. Occasional out-of-county travel may also be required for continuing education, conferences, professional development, or other job-related training. This full-time position is eligible for Leon County employee benefits in accordance with County policies and applicable eligibility requirements.
Pay:
$19.23 - $22.83 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
