Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Senior Executive Accountant is a high-level position responsible for wide-ranging financial transactions and analysis to ensure the accuracy, integrity, completeness, and compliance of the County's financial objectives across all funds and cost centers. This role utilizes advanced accounting expertise to assist management in decision-making by providing clear financial insights, forecasting, reporting, analysis, and guidance to other department personnel on the Workday financial tool. This position is required, as directed, to report onsite before, during, and after emergency events.ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: First Assistant (directly) and County Auditor (indirectly).Other:
Works closely with County Auditor, First Assistant department personnel, contractors, auditors, outside agencies, and interdepartmental personnel.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for financial records, analysis, and reporting for all County government funds and cost centers as assigned; external audits as required; and maintaining expertise utilizing the County's financial systems and tools. This position plays a critical role in the County's accounting records, improving efficiencies where available, and aligning financial practices with organizational goals. Account analysis and prepare journal entries as needed. Prepare, analyze, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Maintain the ledger and oversee reconciliations of accounts, funds, and financial systems. Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to executive leadership. Assists with FEMA and other grant requirements as needed for recordkeeping and federal/state/insurance reimbursements. Special projects as assigned. Develops expertise in and mentors other staff on using the County's Workday financial system. Performs other duties as may be assigned.QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a major in accounting plus at least 5 years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a government setting. The County may consider any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training in the County's sole judgment.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program user guides, professional journals, technical writings, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, flow charts, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to learn and adapt to new technology.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY
Critical thinking and ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of contemporary technology tools, information systems, computer hardware and software, and security administration. Ability to operate a computer using word processing and spreadsheet programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
