Job Description

As an Accountant I - Accounting Automation at ASI, you will support accurate financial recordkeeping and transaction processing across core accounting functions while helping identify and improve repetitive accounting processes through the use of AI. You will assist with reconciliations, supporting schedules, transaction processing, and financial reporting under the guidance of senior accounting team members. In addition, you will help evaluate accounting workflows and use approved AI, automation, and data tools to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and create more efficient processes. This position is ideal for an early-career accounting professional who understands accounting fundamentals and has practical experience using technology to solve problems. You will develop proficiency in ASI's accounting systems, reporting standards, and internal controls while building the skills needed to take on greater accounting and process ownership at higher levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Record daily financial transactions accurately in the general ledger and supporting journals. Reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies. Compile financial data and supporting schedules to assist senior accountants in preparing financial statements. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable entries, ensuring appropriate documentation, approval, and coding. Assist in month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and account tie-outs. Maintain organized records of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and ASI procedures. Generate and maintain standard reports using SAP, Excel, and other approved reporting tools. Support audit preparation by gathering documentation, reconciling requested data, and responding to information requests. Identify repetitive, manual, or error-prone accounting processes that may benefit from automation or improved workflow design. Assist in developing, testing, and implementing accounting process improvements using approved AI, automation, spreadsheet, and reporting tools. Use tools such as advanced Excel functions, Power Query, Power Automate, AI assistants, scripting tools, or similar technologies to organize data, streamline recurring tasks, and improve reporting. Validate automated outputs against source data and established accounting requirements before relying on or distributing results. Document automated workflows, data sources, assumptions, approval requirements, control points, and exception-handling procedures. Monitor automated processes, investigate exceptions, and escalate discrepancies or control concerns when appropriate. Partner with Accounting, Finance, and IT team members to ensure process improvements comply with internal controls, data-security requirements, and company policies. Handle financial and company information responsibly when using AI or automation tools, including following ASI requirements regarding confidential or sensitive data.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND JOB SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. One to two years of professional experience in accounting or finance. Working knowledge of GAAP principles and fundamental accounting processes. Demonstrated experience improving or automating at least one accounting, financial, reporting, or data-related process through employment, an internship, coursework, or a personal project. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, or similar functionality. Experience with, or strong familiarity with, one or more automation or AI-enabled tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Excel macros, Python, SQL, or comparable technology. Ability to explain how an automated process works, validate its output, identify exceptions, and document the process for others. Understanding of the risks and limitations associated with AI-generated output, including accuracy, confidentiality, access controls, and the need for human review. Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, or the ability and willingness to become proficient in them. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate financial information. Analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in improving how work is completed. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to balance process innovation with accounting controls, documentation requirements, and established approval processes. At Autonomous Solutions, Inc.
