If so, we want to meet you! We are a growing, mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. Working directly with and under the mentorship of the Director of Accounting and Finance, you'll gain hands-on experience across general ledger accounting, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial audit preparation, and accounting process improvement. This position is designed for professional growth. The successful candidate will have opportunities to assume increasing responsibility and develop the technical, analytical, supervisory, and leadership skills necessary to progress toward an accounting leadership role. What You'll Do Review general ledger activity for accuracy, and prepare recurring journal entries and reconciliations. Produce financial statements and analyze results against budget and prior periods. Provide accounting support and interpretation of the financial results to stakeholders across the organization. Serve as the Paylocity payroll administrator, including payroll processing, reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, year-end reporting, and tax filings. Support accounts payable and receivable operations, providing backup coverage as needed. Help optimize Bill.com and improve accounts payable workflows, approvals, internal controls, policies, and processing efficiency. Identify opportunities to eliminate manual processes and duplicate data entry through automation and better system integration. Help strengthen accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls. Participate in special projects and assume greater responsibility as your experience and capabilities grow.
What We're Looking For Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 2-4 years of professional accounting experience. Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and GAAP. Strong Excel skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Finance, Human Resources, and colleagues across all departments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset. Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with payroll, employee, donor, and financial information. Experience that will help you stand out: Hands-on payroll processing experience, particularly for 60+ salaried and hourly employees. Experience with Paylocity or another payroll/HCM system. Experience with Bill.com or another automated accounts payable platform. Experience improving or automating accounting processes. Nonprofit or fund-accounting experience. Experience supporting an annual financial audit. CPA eligibility, CPA coursework, or interest in pursuing a professional accounting certification. Compensation The anticipated salary range is $70,000
