Lead Staff Accountant

Job DescriptionJob Description Position Summary The Lead Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities within the organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, development of internal controls, and strategic support for decision‐making. The Lead Staff Accountant leads the accounting team and plays a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial management. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP (or IFRS if applicable). Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts and supporting documentation. Present financial results and insights to executive leadership. Accounting Operations Manage day‐to‐day accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and fixed assets. Implement and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Oversee month‐end and year‐end close processes. Coordinate annual audits with external auditors. Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis. Support strategic planning and operational decision-making with financial insights. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations. Manage tax planning and coordinate with external tax advisors. Assess financial risks and implement controls to mitigate them. Leadership & Team Development Supervise and develop the accounting team. Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Collaborate cross‐functionally to support organizational goals. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership roles. Experience with financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles. Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle). Advanced Excel skills and data analysis capabilities. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‐solving skills. High attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines. Working Conditions Full‐time position, typically Monday-Friday. May require additional hours during peak reporting periods.
