Job Description

Job Summary This professional will be an essential member of SJ Investment Management's (SJIM) Accounting & Operations Team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will be primarily responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions of the family office. The role full time in office in downtown Charlottesville. SJIM is a single family office, managing several complex multi-asset portfolios. In this newly created position, this person's main responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly bank and account reconciliations across multiple entities (investment and operating LLCs, trusts) Process accounts payable and manage bill payment for the management company and other entities Post journal entries to record cash activity including investment cash flows (capital calls, distributions, dividends, etc) and loan activity Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for all entities Prepare and update balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts Support year-end close processes Monitor cash balances and assist with cash flow management and transfers Maintain organized financial records and document management systems Assist with coordination and preparation of work papers for annual tax filings (individual, partnership, trust, and corporate returns) in support of outside CPAs Annual 1099 preparation and distribution Process payroll and payroll tax payments Assist with annual budget preparation Assist with special projects as directed by the Director of Finance The ideal candidate must be extremely detail oriented and a natural problem-solver. This individual will also demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, must be a self-starter and have a strong desire for continuous process improvement. Cultural fit, humility, maturity and discretion are imperative. The Company Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, SJIM serves as the investment office for a local family. SJIM is responsible for portfolio management, asset allocation, and manager selection across a number of asset classes including large allocations to alternative investments (e.g., hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real assets). Education, Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience; family office, public accounting, or wealth management experience a plus
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software; familiarity with Addepar or similar investment reporting platforms a plus
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting structures preferred
  • Exceptional discretion and ability to handle confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional and polished demeanor
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a small-team environment
  • Low-ego, collaborative attitude with a willingness to handle both high-level and administrative tasks Compensation Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits
