Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a university environment in Hampton, Virginia. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone with a solid accounting foundation who can support day-to-day financial operations with accuracy and consistency. The role focuses on maintaining reliable records, preparing key accounting entries, and assisting with core close activities in a collaborative setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and record journal entries to maintain accurate financial data across assigned accounts.
  • Perform bank reconciliations on a regular basis and investigate discrepancies to ensure balances are properly supported.
  • Assist with month-end close tasks, including reviewing account activity and helping finalize reporting deadlines.
  • Support general ledger maintenance by verifying transactions and keeping financial records organized and up to date.
  • Contribute to accounts payable processing by reviewing and coding invoices for timely payment.
  • Help manage accounts receivable activity by tracking incoming payments and following up on outstanding balances.
  • Work with internal departments to gather financial information and resolve routine accounting questions.
  • Identify inconsistencies in accounting records and escalate or correct issues to support accurate reporting.
