Job Summary:
The Accounting Intern supports client engagement teams by developing foundational tax, assurance, and accounting capabilities while applying analytical thinking and sound judgment under supervision. This role enhances the firm's client service delivery by producing accurate workpapers, learning to use PBMares-approved technologies, including AI-assisted tools with required human review—and contributing to engagement efficiency. The intern gains exposure to diverse industries, builds professional skills, and supports high-quality output that aligns with firm standards and strategic priorities.Client Service Excellence:
Support engagement teams in delivering timely, accurate work that meets client expectations. Communicate proactively to clarify requirements and provide status updates. Observe client meetings to build awareness of professional communication and client service standards. Prepare clear, well-organized workpapers that contribute to smooth engagement execution.Technical Expertise:
Apply developing knowledge of tax law, accounting principles, and auditing standards to assigned work. Perform analytical procedures, testing, and documentation with accuracy and attention to detail. Assist with evaluating internal controls and identifying potential issues under supervision. Use PBMares-approved AI tools appropriately, ensuring all AI-assisted output is reviewed for accuracy and compliance. Demonstrate increasing proficiency with firm technology, including audit/tax software and Microsoft Office.People Management and Relationships:
Collaborate effectively with team members by communicating clearly and meeting commitments. Seek and apply feedback to strengthen technical capabilities and professional behaviors. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and respect in all team interactions.Growth and Profitability:
Manage time effectively to support efficient engagement execution and meet billable hour goals. Produce accurate work that minimizes rework and contributes to engagement efficiency. Leverage technology and AI-enabled tools to improve workflow accuracy and speed while maintaining quality.Technology and Innovation:
Use firm-approved AI tools in accordance with PBMares policies, ensuring human review of all outputs. Leverage digital platforms and workflow tools to enhance accuracy and productivity. Identify opportunities to use technology to streamline work and improve team efficiency.Travel Requirements:
Minimal travel required; occasional client site visits may be necessary.Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Professional office environment with standard business equipment. May require extended periods of sitting, standing, or travel. Overtime required during peak periods.Required Education and Experience:
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Accounting (rising junior or senior). On track to meet requirements for CPA exam eligibility. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable transportation for client site visits.Preferred Education and Experience:
GPA of 3.5 or higher. Exposure to QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
