General Public•G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is currently seeking a qualified candidate to become our General Accountant! This Accountant performs agency-wide fiscal duties related to accounting functions and other fiscal reporting. Duties include but are not limited to: Preparing inventory of all fixed assets and lease accounting. Performing Small Purchase Credit Card reconciliations, reports, and manages agency cash flow activities, provides ARMICS control review support. Serving as back up for Accounts Receivable functions and payroll certification. Ensuring compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations and with Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual. Maintaining appropriate documentation and applying accounting principles and practices to maintain accounting systems. Preparing financial statements, reconciliation of Agency Wide financial transactions other fiscal reports. Demonstrates excellent customer service in responding to inquiries and resolving complaints. This position is eligible for one day of telework per week. Due to the public-facing nature of the role, regular onsite presence is required. All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official EWP. Minimum Qualifications Significant knowledge of day-to-day accounting transactions, complying with state and agency policies, and preparing required supporting documentation. Demonstrated knowledge of government accounting, accounts payable including disbursements and compliance, accounts receivable, preparing electronic reports, and resolving accounting errors. Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Commonwealth Accounting Policies & Procedures (CAPP) or comparable manuals. Considerable skill in the use of computers, Microsoft Office with advanced skill in Excel and Cardinal or similar automated accounting systems. Ability to meet reporting and close out deadlines. Ability to ensure record keeping is compliant and ensure quality control of documentation. Excellent professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment, to build rapport and collaboration. Ability to deliver excellent customer service to a diverse group of internal and external customers. Ability to demonstrate good judgment and to serve as a resource to staff in support of the VDEM mission. Additional Considerations An equivalent combination of training and experience in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
