Job Description

Description The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority has a full-time position available for a Staff Accountant I to join our Finance team! This candiate will perform intermediate skilled technical work preparing and processing journal entries, analyzing and processing bank deposits, reconciling bank revenue, analyzing financial statements in accordance to GAAP and compliance to company policy, analyzing and preparing general ledger account reconciliations, processing travel requests and credit card invoices, acting as Petty Cash custodian, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under supervision of the Senior Accountant Essential Functions Analyzes financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance to internal policies. Prepares month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing journal entries. Prepares work papers, financial statements and various reports for auditors and internal staff. Directs cash management operations including daily cash administration, management of current accounts and bank relations; analyzes and processes bank deposits into various funding categories. Serves as petty cash custodian. Prepares bank cash deposits for review and authorization by Senior Accountant or Fiscal Manager. Serves as courier for bank deposits. Analyzes and prepares GL account reconciliations. Develops a thorough understanding of, monitors and maintains systems, procedures and policies including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines. Assists Senior Accountant with budget, proper expenditure coding, document preparation and other accounting related activities. Processes travel requests and monthly credit card reconciliation and payment. Assists with the recruitment and selection of staff; trains new hires and staff in company's financial policies. Serves as the back up to accounts payable for invoice processing and the associated check run when prescribed by the Fiscal Manager. Researches transactions, accounting guidance, and regulations as assigned by the Senior Accountant, Fiscal Manager or Chief Financial Officer. Assists with Finance Department administrative functions and clerical duties as directed. Performs other duties as prescribed by the Chief Financial Officer. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of the theories, principles, methods and practices of governmental accounting; general knowledge of the laws, ordinances and regulations governing municipal financial matters; thorough knowledge of modern office methods, practices and equipment; ability to prepare, analyze and evaluate financial systems; ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software; ability to express technical ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, bankers, State and external auditors, vendors, Board members and the general public. Position Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration with coursework in accounting, or evidence of significant upper level accounting coursework along with verifiable evidence of at least two years of focused accounting experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
