Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support tax preparation and core accounting activities for clients in Staunton, Virginia. This position is well suited for someone who can manage day-to-day bookkeeping accurately while contributing to corporate tax and sales tax work. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, stays organized under deadlines, and communicates effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review corporate tax returns with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
- Maintain client financial records by managing routine bookkeeping tasks and keeping account activity up to date.
- Record and post journal entries to ensure transactions are reflected properly in the accounting system.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to support reliable financial reporting.
- Assist with sales tax filings and related compliance requirements across assigned client accounts.
- Work directly with clients to gather financial information, answer accounting questions, and clarify documentation needs.
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes by organizing records and verifying account balances. Requirements

- Working knowledge of sales tax compliance and filing requirements.
- Proficiency in bookkeeping fundamentals, including maintaining accurate financial records.
- Ability to prepare journal entries and support general ledger reconciliation activities.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with clients and internal team members.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
