Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Plant Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing operations team. This pivotal role involves overseeing cost accounting functions, analyzing production expenses, and ensuring accurate financial reporting related to manufacturing costs. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in cost management, financial analysis, and accounting systems within a manufacturing environment. They will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making through detailed cost analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Senior Plant Cost Accountant will also ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP and SOX regulations, contributing to the integrity of the company's financial data. Duties Lead cost accounting activities by analyzing production costs, raw materials, labor, and overhead expenses to ensure accurate cost allocation. Prepare detailed financial reports and summaries related to manufacturing costs, providing insights for management decision-making. Conduct variance analysis between actual costs and budgets, identifying discrepancies and recommending corrective actions. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts specific to manufacturing operations, including inventory valuation and work-in-progress accounts. Utilize ERP systems such as SAP or Sage to collect data, generate reports, and support financial analysis processes. Perform balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and month-end closing procedures with precision. Support internal controls compliance by assisting with SOX audits and implementing best practices for financial processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, procurement, and finance to optimize cost efficiency. Assist in forecasting future manufacturing costs based on historical data trends and business intelligence tools. Manage accounts payable and receivable related to plant operations while ensuring accuracy in cash flow analysis. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred. Extensive accounting experience within the manufacturing industry, with a focus on cost management and financial analysis. Proficiency with accounting software such as SAP, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or Quicken; strong skills in Excel data analysis and spreadsheets. In-depth knowledge of GAAP principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting concepts. Experience with ERP systems implementation and maintenance; familiarity with business intelligence tools is advantageous. Strong data collection skills coupled with analytical thinking for detailed cost analysis and forecasting. Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements for internal controls. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately. Effective communication skills to present findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
