Job Description

We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our team! We're seeking a Financial Accountant to join us in a vital role managing complex accounting for general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of our financial records. You'll be part of a dynamic team focused on delivering solutions for all GMP customers and you will use your financial expertise, collaborative track record, and customer-focused attitude to support month-end close activities, analyze and reconcile general ledger activity, and prepare financial and regulatory reports. What you will do Prepare and review monthly journal entries and actively participate in month end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Analyze and reconcile general ledger account activity to ensure the ledger is correct. Support power supply with review of purchase power agreements and properly account for power transactions. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to meet internal and external reporting requirements. Assist with internal and external audit requests. Ensure compliance with internal controls and make recommendations regarding needed changes and process efficiency improvements. Assist with special projects by gathering information and providing supporting analysis as requested. Utilize accounting knowledge and experience to ensure new financial accounting pronouncements and transactions are accurately recorded and reported. Prepare accounting memos for new accounting requirements. Back up for power supply accounting, derivatives and unbilled revenue analysis. Assist with Pension accounting entries. Respond to requests from other departments as necessary. Who we are looking for This position requires demonstrated experience with complex accounting, a finance degree, the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously, and a collaborative approach to your work. Qualifications Ability to work independently and collectively with the Finance Team and other members of the company. Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Skillful in developing and building successful internal and external relationships. Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting concepts to those without accounting expertise. Strong technology aptitude to learn and leverage technology solutions for communication, analysis, and efficient workflows. Excel experience required. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Regulated utility/public accounting experience a plus. Location Can be either our Colchester or Rutland, Vermont office. Compensation As part of our commitment to fair and open hiring practices, we disclose compensation. This position offers a competitive salary range of $85,000-$115,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities.
