Job Description

The Accountant supports the financial health and stability of the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association by managing day-to-day accounting tasks, preparing accurate financial reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and state/federal requirements. This role is ideal for an individual who is detail-oriented, enjoys working independently, and wants to contribute to a mission-driving organization supporting housing and development in western Wisconsin. Initially we anticipate the new hire to work about 15 hours per week training on the job. Then once up to speed after a couple of weeks, we expect the accountant to work 10 to 12 hours per week with occasional weeks needing a couple more hours around major events.
Specific duties will include:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Generate and send invoices; monitor accounts receivables and follow up with members to ensure timely payment. Prepare monthly financial statements for the Executive Officer and Board of Directors. Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts on a monthly basis. Process membership dues, event registrations, and sponsorship payments, ensuring proper coding and allocation. Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and year-end reporting. Ensure compliance with state and federal nonprofit reporting requirements (e.g., 1099s, annual filings). Serve as the liaison with the CPA firm for annual reviews/tax filings. Provide timely financial insights to support decision-making for programs, events, and operations. Recommend process improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with financial management policies. Support major Association events (i.e. Parade of Homes, Home Show). Provide occasional office coverage and assist with delivery of Home Inspirations magazines as needed. All other duties as assigned.
