POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accountant performs a variety of accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial reporting, to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial records. This role supports senior finance staff by maintaining organized documentation, adhering to accounting standards, and assisting in the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Post daily operational activity to the general ledger by reviewing source documents and entering accurate financial data, ensuring up-to-date and reliable financial records. Process weekly bank deposits by preparing deposit documentation and entering transactions into the accounting system, ensuring timely and accurate recording of revenue. Record and reconcile bi-weekly payroll transactions by verifying payroll reports and comparing data to the general ledger, ensuring accurate employee compensation and proper expense allocation. Record journal entries by analyzing financial information and applying proper accounting principles, resulting in accurate monthly and year-end financial statements. Reconcile general ledger and bank accounts by comparing statements, identifying discrepancies, and making corrections, ensuring account accuracy and sound financial controls. Provide backup support for accounts payable by reviewing invoices, preparing payments, and verifying coding, ensuring continuity of operations during staff absences. Assist with month-end and year-end closing by preparing schedules, updating ledgers, and gathering required documentation, resulting in timely and accurate reporting cycles. Assist with accounting, financial analysis, and budget-related projects by compiling data and performing basic calculations, contributing to informed decision-making and strong fiscal management. Collaborate with branches and departments by explaining accounting processes and answering inquiries, ensuring consistent understanding and proper adherence to financial procedures.
NON- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform all other duties as assigned . Follow all YMCA abuse prevention and risk management policies, including required trainings , mandated reporting, and monitoring of high-risk areas.
