Job Description
Job DescriptionJob Description Accountant 47967 8am-5pm weekdays Temporary, 1-6 months The General Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization through accurate reporting, analysis, reconciliation, and maintenance of financial records. This role ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements where applicable, while maintaining strong internal controls and providing reliable financial information to support organizational decision-making. The role may also support single audit processes and compliance requirements related to federal or grant funding. Responsibilities Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, journal entries, and account reconciliations Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations for bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary ledgers Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments Prepare financial statements, schedules, and supporting documentation Ensure compliance with accounting principles, organizational policies, and applicable GASB pronouncements (if applicable to public sector or higher education) Analyze financial activity, variances, and account discrepancies, resolving issues as needed Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation Assist with external and internal audits, including preparation for single audits, by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and requested documentation Support compliance related to federal funding, grants, or other programs subject to single audit requirements Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements for financial accuracy and efficiency Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Experience with account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger maintenance Knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems 2-4 years of accounting experience with strong reconciliation responsibilities Experience interpreting and applying GASB pronouncements, particularly in governmental, public sector, or higher education environments Experience supporting or participating in single audits, including federal grant or compliance-related audits Experience with complex reconciliations, month-end close, and audit preparation Knowledge of GAAP and/or governmental accounting standards ERP or financial system experience Company DescriptionAs one of the top local staffing agencies in Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois, Halpin Staffing Services helps companies find great people and job seekers find great jobs.
