Job Description
Job DescriptionJob Description Position Summary The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a laboratory chemical and supply distribution company. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting AP/AR, journal entries, month-end close, and assisting with costing, and compliance-related accounting activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a distribution environment with high transaction volume and regulated products. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and recurring entries. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes. Perform account reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, inventory, prepaid expenses, fixed assets). Administrative assistance for Payroll, and benefits program. Sales and use tax, and other indirect taxes.
Financial reporting:
Income Statements, Balance Sheets. Assist with audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation. Freight claims management. Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP. Collaborate with purchasing, warehouse, logistics, and sales departments to resolve accounting discrepancies. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 1-3 years of accounting experience (public or industry). Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas). Experience working with ERP or accounting systems. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain-based environments. Familiarity with inventory accounting and cost accounting Experience with regulated products (chemicals, laboratory supplies, pharmaceuticals) CPA or CPA-eligible (preferred but not required) Experience with sales and use tax compliance. Work Environment Office Based Frequent computer use and phone communication Collaboration with internal departments including sales, logistics, warehouse, and purchasing.
