Job Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support financial analysis, reporting accuracy, and informed business decisions in the Bluefield/Tazewell, VA area. This position works closely with operations and finance stakeholders to evaluate product costs, maintain reliable inventory accounting, and contribute to timely month-end reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound accounting knowledge, and the ability to translate financial data into practical insights.
Responsibilities:
- Track inventory-related activity, review cost balances, and assess reserve needs to help maintain accurate financial records.
- Contribute to product costing efforts by evaluating cost structures, supporting pricing decisions, and analyzing profitability across products or operations.
- Assist with monthly close activities by preparing reconciliations, recording accruals and prepayments, and maintaining fixed asset accounting support.
- Examine budget-to-actual and cost variances to highlight trends, uncover potential issues, and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare financial information required for statutory filings, regulatory needs, and audit support while maintaining documentation quality.
- Strengthen reporting reliability by helping refine accounting processes, internal controls, and financial analysis tools.
- Collaborate with operational and business teams to provide cost insights that support planning, performance, and decision-making.
- Use financial systems and spreadsheets to organize data, produce reporting, and improve visibility into cost performance.
