- MU4200 Job Description The Accountant is responsible for the administration, accounting, reconciliation, and disbursement of federal, state, institutional, and private student financial aid funds.
Duties include managing cash flow activities, monitoring bank accounts, processing ACH and wire transfers, administering student refunds, preparing accounting and reconciliation entries, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and University regulations. The position supports student success by ensuring the timely delivery of financial aid refunds and supports University operations through accurate financial reporting, cash management, and stewardship of financial resources. The Accountant collaborates with campus departments, maintains strong internal controls, assists with audits and regulatory reporting, identifies process improvements, and provides cross-functional support to ensure continuity of critical Bursar's Office operations. The position provides customer service support by responding to inquiries received through the University's student refund departmental email account. The position assists students, parents, faculty, and staff with questions related to financial aid disbursements, refund eligibility, refund processing timelines, direct deposit enrollment, refund holds, returned payments, and related student account transactions The position assists in identifying, evaluating, and implementing process improvements, automation opportunities, and emerging technologies to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of Bursar's Office operations. Utilizes data analysis, reporting tools, workflow automation solutions, and approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to streamline business processes, reduce manual effort, improve data quality, strengthen internal controls, and support informed decision-making. Salary Range $44,918

Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Experience A minimum of one year of related progressive accounting experience working with financial systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools. Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reconciliation processes, and cash management practices. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations, policies, and procedures. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications Education Experience Experience in higher education accounting, student financial services, or financial aid administration. Experience with Banner
ERP , ARGOS
reporting, Excel, and banking cash management platforms. Knowledge of federal Title IV regulations, student accounts receivable, and higher education business processes. Experience with audit support, compliance reporting, and financial reconciliation activities.
