This is a leadership position with direct responsibility for trust and IOLTA accounting, settlement disbursements, and financial controls in every state where we practice. You will be the person our attorneys and leadership rely on to keep client funds protected, settlements moving on time, and the books airtight. The right person combines deep trust accounting knowledge with the judgment to build, enforce, and continuously improve financial processes as the firm grows. What You'll Do Trust Accounting and Compliance Own the firm's trust and operating accounts, including IOLTA accounts in multiple states Ensure compliance with each state bar's trust accounting rules and keep audit-ready records at all times Oversee trust-to-operating transfers with proper documentation of earned fees and recovered costs Establish and enforce internal controls over client funds, check issuance, and account access Settlements and Disbursements Oversee the settlement distribution process from signed release to final disbursement across all offices Review and approve settlement statements, verifying that attorney fees, case costs, public adjuster fees, and lien resolutions are calculated correctly Issue and track client and third-party disbursements, maintaining clean records of every settlement Serve as the escalation point for settlement and disbursement questions from attorneys, staff, and clients Financial Leadership and Oversight Supervise accounts payable, including vendor payments, recurring expenses, and case cost tracking by matter so costs are properly recovered at settlement Monitor cash flow across operating accounts and multiple offices Build, document, and continuously improve the firm's financial procedures and controls Train and supervise staff supporting accounts payable and settlement workflows What We're Looking For Required 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on law firm trust or IOLTA accounting Experience managing settlement disbursements, ideally in a plaintiff-side contingency-fee practice Demonstrated command of three-way trust reconciliation Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software and strong Excel skills Experience building or enforcing financial controls and procedures Meticulous attention to detail and discretion with sensitive financial information Clear written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint) Preferred (not required) CPA, CLM, or a degree in accounting or finance Experience with multi-state or multi-office law firm operations and the trust accounting rules of multiple jurisdictions Supervisory or management experience over accounting or administrative staff Basic understanding of property insurance claims and/or personal injury cases Experience with legal case management systems Who Thrives in This Role You'll do well here if you treat client funds as sacred, take full ownership of the numbers, and hold yourself and others to a standard where every dollar is accounted for.
