Job Description
Under the general direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Supervisor oversees, implements, and supervises accounting in the centralized accounting office for Muskegon County. This employee assesses current County processes and implements improvements where necessary. The Accounting Supervisor assists auditors examining the County's accounting system; monitors the financial systems and the financial portion of grants; and supervises a staff of professional, technical and clerical employees. This position is required to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative; however, very critically important and sensitive determinations and decisions may require guidance and coordination at a higher level. This employee applies rules, regulations and policies with a high degree of professionalism and independence throughout the accounting process and performs other related duties as required. Have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance or closely related field; AND Have a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time work experience in governmental accounting, which includes considerable use of computer spreadsheet applications and a t least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity.
