SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
: This position is responsible for Accounting and Finance within the Administration Department of the Dayton Society of Natural History. The ideal candidate will have experience in Accounting and Finance and will support the Chief Financial Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Analyze daily paperwork from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's Admissions Desk, Discoveries Shop, and Eco Eatery and SunWatch Village's Admissions and Gift Shop to create journal entries for deposits and related revenue in Financial Edge NXT. Run point-of-sale reports for accounts receivable, enter accounts receivable entries into Financial Edge NXT, and reconcile accounts receivable balances between Versai point-of-sale software and Financial Edge NXT accounting software. Review accounts payable and print checks for mailing to vendors weekly or as needed from the Financial Edge NXT software. Make ACH payments for Ohio sales tax, workers' compensation, health insurance, and unemployment benefits as well as other vendors requiring ACH payments. Record ACH payments in the Financial Edge NXT software. Manage company credit cards including sending monthly reminders for reports from employees, submitting requests for new or cancelled cards, adjusting credit limits, and making related journal entries in Financial Edge NXT. Monitor bank accounts online and make transfers as necessary to maintain adequate balances for outstanding payables. Report and investigate any suspicious activity. Maintain and distribute petty cash fund for employee reimbursements. Prepare and mail 1099 forms each January and maintain related W-9 forms for each vendor. Prepare and file Unclaimed Funds Report annually. Maintain accounting records for deposits, receivables, credit cards, sales tax, and other items as needed. Maintain cash handling manuals for the organization. Assist other members of the accounting department as needed for tasks such as taking deposits to the bank or entering accounts payable when other members of the accounting department are out of the office. Assist the Chief Financial Officer and President & CEO, as needed.
Work Environment :
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work :
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are flexible within Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Required Education and Experience :
Associate's or Bachelor's degree and related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is considered an excellent place for a candidate to begin their journey in the field of museums and/or accounting.
Preferred Experience :
Familiarity with Financial Edge NXT accounting system, Versai Museum Management Software, RegFox event registration platform, Jumbula online registration software, Square, and PayPal is beneficial.
