Contract Controller (Nonprofit | Grants Accounting | MIP)

ASAP Overview We're partnering with a mission-driven organization seeking an experienced Contract Controller to step in during a period of transition. This is a hands-on role ideal for a Controller who enjoys stabilizing accounting operations, cleaning up historical issues, and mentoring developing teams. The organization has a junior accounting staff and needs a strong technical and people leader to help correct errors, support audits, and strengthen day-to-day processes. Key Responsibilities Serve as interim Controller , overseeing core accounting operations Reconcile and stabilize general ledger and supporting schedules Identify, investigate, and correct historical accounting discrepancies Support and help remediate backlogged audits , including prior-year activity Oversee grants accounting , ensuring compliance and accuracy Manage month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting Improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation Train, mentor, and guide a junior accounting team Provide hands-on support and training in MIP Fund Accounting Partner closely with finance leadership to guide stabilization efforts Required Qualifications Controller-level accounting experience (nonprofit experience strongly preferred) Strong grants accounting background Advanced proficiency with MIP Fund Accounting (required) Ability to train and support users is essential Experience cleaning up disorganized accounting environments Prior exposure to audit support, remediation, or delayed audits Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities Comfortable rolling up sleeves in a complex, evolving environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with Microix Prior interim, consulting, or contract Controller experience Background working with junior or developing accounting teams All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
