ACCOUNTS PAYABLE/RISK MANAGEMENT SUPERVISOR
Accounts Payable Classified Job Number 2300290061 Start Date Open Date 02/27/2026 Closing Date The duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for the supervision and training of Accounts Payable Clerks which includes day to day operations of the processing of all invoices, contracts, and utilities for the Mobile County Public School System. Proper payment of invoices and travel according to the guidelines set forth by the Board of School Commissioners and the State of Alabama Examiners of Public Accounts. Proper payment of construction projects and monthly reconciliation of expenditures to the construction company. Correcting entries to the general ledger if needed, and preparing the cash transmittal to the bank for accounts payable. Cash transmittal of funds to the bank for payroll department bonus, semi-monthly, and month-end payrolls. Taking vendor and board personnel calls relating to various problems and procedure questions concerning payments of invoices, travel reimbursement and purchase order detail. Working closely with purchasing and budgeting to ensure that purchase orders are correctly created before given to accounts payable for processing and special projects at various times. Record keeping and archiving of accounts payable documents. Credit card payment of invoices and reconciliation of credit card statements. Year-end closing of accounts payable which includes processing of all invoices in the fiscal year, closing of federal funded purchase orders, monitoring of aging report on a daily basis for all accounts payable personnel and correcting entries to the general ledger for all encumbrances. Other duties as assigned. Risk Management Responsible for handling insurance on all property for the Mobile County School System. Working with facilities on the certification of all property for the system. Processing and closing all property claims which includes working with Alabama Risk Management, Facilities, Maintenance, Security and outside adjusters. Responsible for system wide liability insurance coverage. Responsible for the insurance of all vehicles for the system. Working with the Transportation Department concerning all claims for the system, which include working with the state's independent adjuster and dealing with the carrier on all types of vehicle claims, and working with the state examiners and legal counsel concerning the position of the Board on various types of claims. Monitoring procedures along with the Transportation Department for sending claims to the State Board of Adjustment for accidents caused by buses and system vehicles not covered under our policy. Responsible for the record keeping of all files claims, and correspondence including forms relating to property, liability, and vehicle coverage.QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related area with a minimum of eight years of experience in accounting, preferably with an educational or governmental organization. CPA or MBA desired. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations regarding accounting as they apply to educational/governmental agencies. Knowledge of automated financial applications with working knowledge of Microsoft Office required (spreadsheets, databases, word processing and general accounting). Duty Days 260Salary Range:
