Here's a summary of responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Director, Audit, the Auditor is responsible for conducting audits, from start to finish, that align with the National Governing Bodies (NGB) Compliance Standards and Implementation Guide, and USOPC and Internally Managed Sport (IMS) Compliance Standards and Implementation Guide. The Auditor will independently evaluate NGB activities, prepare audit workpapers and drafts of audit reports for supervisory review, and serve as a technical resource for
USOPC/NGB
personnel. NGB audits are typically conducted remotely but occasionally onsite, and USOPC audits are mostly conducted onsite at USOPC headquarters or at USOPC training centers or training sites. Here's how you'll have an impact: NGB Audits - 70% Conduct NGB compliance audits consistent with the NGB Compliance Standards and Implementation Guide for the following areas:
Governance and Compliance:
evaluation of general governance policies and practices
Financial Standards and Reporting Practices:
evaluation of internal controls, general ledger review and reconciliations to USOPC funding reports, and analysis of financial statements
Athlete Protections and Rights:
evaluation of athlete safety program and background check policy, and anti-doping compliance
Sport Performance:
evaluation of timely submission of athlete selection procedures and submission of high-performance plan
Operational Performance:
evaluation of managerial capabilities, grievance procedures, diversity and inclusion requirements, and whistleblower policies and procedures. Independently complete all steps including reviewing prior audit results, obtaining supporting documentation, evaluating compliance with Implementation Guide requirements, creation of sample selection, participating in entrance and exit conferences, and preparing all correspondence and workpapers. Perform site visits as needed to obtain evidence, communicate with various NGB staff, examine records, and gather pertinent data. Independently formulate recommendations for Implementation Guide requirements in response to audit results to improve NGB operations and USOPC oversight. Draft audit reports based on the work performed and submit report drafts and work papers for review. Independently perform follow-up procedures to verify implementation of audit finding and/or recommendations. Internal Audit -20% Participate in USOPC and IMS Compliance Audits and internal audits. Independently complete all steps including reviewing prior audit results; obtaining supporting documentation; evaluating compliance with USOPC and IMS Implementation Guide requirements for USOPC Compliance Audits; compliance with internal policies and procedures for internal audits; identifying opportunities for efficiencies for internal audits; selecting samples; participating in entrance and exit conferences; and preparing all correspondence and workpapers. Perform site visits as needed to obtain evidence, communicate with various NGB staff, examine records, and gather pertinent data. Independently formulate recommendations for USOPC and IMS Implementation Guide requirements in response to audit results to improve USOPC operations and compliance. Draft audit reports based on the work performed and submit report drafts and work papers for review. Independently perform follow-up procedures to verify implementation of audit finding and/or recommendations. Audit Program Development -10% Perform the following additional responsibilities: Identify areas of improvement in the audit program and Implementation Guides In collaboration with the Compliance team, connect with relevant internal departments to inform on needed changes and better understand key risks and concerns Update audit work papers and templates to address changes and areas of improvement Provide training internally and externally on key trends or areas of concern at least annually Keep abreast of professional standards and changes and trends in the internal audit profession. Assist with special projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience Preferred active CIA or CPA certificate or documented progress toward certification preferred 2 - 4 years of audit experience, either in internal audit or in public accounting Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient interpersonal skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and time management skills Strong understanding of not-for-profit accounting practices and internal controls Sound understanding of audit theories, principles, and practices Ability to interact well and collaborate with a variety of individuals at all levels and from all backgrounds Attention to detail Expert in Microsoft Office Suite consisting of Word and Excel No impairment to independence with respect to USOPC or NGB entities Ability to maintain confidentiality Knowledge and ability to apply professional standards Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations Here are the tools, equipment, & conditions: Standard office equipment Office environment Frequent national travel Regular attendance at work is an essential job function Here's where you'll work: Colorado Springs Downtown Headquarters / Hybrid Here's some more information you need to know: Hiring pay range $68,000 - $75,000 per year This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
Bonus:
This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 10% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
