POSITION SUMMARY

The Weatherization program at Community Action of Southern Indiana (CASI) permanently lowers the utility bills in low-income households by providing energy saving home improvements such as air sealing, insulation, and furnace tune-ups. The primary role of the Weatherization Auditor is to improve the energy-efficiency, health, and safety of homes by conducting comprehensive home energy audits, determining cost-effective home improvement measures, and working with contractors to ensure the effective implementation of those measures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Process applications, collect required documentation, and maintain the program's waiting list. Contact clients to discuss Weatherization and schedule appointments. Conduct home walkthroughs, interview clients about the energy usage, comfort, health, and safety of their home, and provide related education. Determine if the needs of each client and home fall under the scope of the weatherization program. Perform energy audits to identify and document health and safety concerns and energy saving opportunities. From each energy audit, evaluate and prioritize energy saving measures using energy modeling software (NEAT/MHEA), and write a detailed work order. Maintain a good working relationship with weatherization contractors and monitor their work. As needed, update the work order during production with change orders. Provide interim and final Quality Control Inspections of weatherization work. Ensure that each project is completed in accordance with standards set forth by the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority and the Department of Energy , and document each project, as required. Attend trainings and obtain necessary certifications for the Weatherization program. Maintain these certifications through continuing education courses. All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to write concise, clearly worded letters. Ability to provide strong customer service and be compassionate and respectful to individuals and families that may be struggling with hardships related, and unrelated, to weatherization. Ability to work independently and effectively manage time. Ability to efficiently navigate on a computer and work with electronic documents, including spreadsheets and databases.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role blends office-based tasks with extensive fieldwork, requiring significant time driving to customer homes across Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana. Fieldwork includes outdoor evaluations and frequent entry into dirty and cramped spaces like crawlspaces and attics, which may be subject to extreme temperatures. CASI provides all necessary protective equipment, including overalls, gloves, and respirators.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires the ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. and to carry, push, and pull equipment. Essential physical tasks include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling (including in confined spaces), and climbing stairs and ladders, in conjunction with operating test equipment and hand tools.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. Generally, hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. TRAVEL This position requires extensive local travel throughout Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Southern Indiana. The first year of this position requires two or three week-long training trips to Indianapolis. Subsequent years will require several one- or two-day trips to maintain certifications through continuing education courses. Travel expenses are paid for by

CASI. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. This individual must have a valid driver's license and motor vehicle insurance and must pass a criminal background check.

BENEFICIAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge and experience with building science, weatherization, and home construction. Experience with weatherization tools such as blower doors, pressure gauges, and combustion analyzers. Certifications applicable to weatherization, renovation, or construction work including: any BPI certifications, HVAC certifications, lead safety certifications, and/or OSHA certifications. Familiarity and experience with non-profit and social service organizations
