Job Title:
Manufacturing AuditorJob Description The Manufacturing Auditor is a floor-based role responsible for real-time review of manufacturing documentation to ensure all records are complete, accurate, and compliant with quality standards for ready-to-use microbiology testing plates used in food safety and quality laboratories. These plates come preloaded with the necessary media, allowing technicians to apply samples and quickly identify bacteria, coliforms, yeast, mold, and other indicator organisms linked to contamination. Working directly on the manufacturing floor, the Manufacturing Auditor helps prevent documentation errors before they result in deviations, scrap, or product release delays. This role reinforces good documentation practices, supports continuous improvement, and ensures documentation is audit-ready and aligned with release readiness requirements. Responsibilities + Perform real-time, in-process reviews of batch records, travelers, and other production documentation on the manufacturing floor to verify completeness, accuracy, and adherence to concurrent documentation practices. + Identify documentation errors or gaps as they occur and support immediate correction to prevent deviations, scrap, or product release delays. + Reinforce good documentation practices (GDP) by providing immediate feedback and coaching to operators and team leads, promoting consistent and compliant behaviors. + Proactively identify and escalate documentation risks or concerns to appropriate stakeholders to ensure timely resolution. + Track trends and recurring documentation issues by area, shift, or process, and provide insights that support continuous improvement efforts. + Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering and cross-functional teams to improve documentation processes and reduce recurring errors. + Produce daily audit logs that accurately summarize documentation reviews, findings, and corrective actions taken. + Compile weekly trend summaries that highlight recurring issues, risk areas, and opportunities for process improvements. + Develop and deliver actionable recommendations for improving documentation practices, audit readiness, and overall release readiness. + Communicate effectively across different teams and levels of the organization, including production operators, team leads, and engineering staff. + Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor to monitor documentation practices and provide ongoing support and coaching. + Demonstrate strong attention to detail in reviewing records and identifying discrepancies, ensuring documentation remains accurate and compliant at all times. Essential Skills + Manufacturing experience in operations, quality assurance, or compliance. + Demonstrated willingness to speak up and coach others, with the ability to communicate effectively across different teams. + Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify documentation errors, inconsistencies, and risks. + Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment. + Ability to reinforce and model good documentation practices (GDP). + Strong written and verbal communication skills to document findings and share recommendations. + Ability to track and interpret trends in documentation issues and translate them into actionable improvements. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Auditing experience, particularly in a manufacturing or quality-focused environment, is a plus. + Interest in working in a unique food and microbiology testing environment involving bacteria and indicator organisms. + Motivation to grow within a growing company and develop skills in documentation, compliance, and continuous improvement. Work Environment This role is based on the manufacturing floor in Building 1 at 720 E Shiawassee St, Lansing, MI, working directly within a production environment that produces ready-to-use microbiology testing plates for food safety and quality laboratories. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a preferred 6:00 AM start time to align with floor activity; there is some flexibility of approximately plus or minus one hour. There may be occasional Friday work if there is carryover from the week, with flexibility for overtime as needed. The position is structured as a 6-month contract. The role reports into site leadership (manager name removed for confidentiality) and requires regular interaction with operators, team leads, and engineering teams on the production floor. The environment is fast-paced, quality-focused, and centered around good documentation practices and continuous improvement. Team members gain experience in a specialized food and bacteria testing setting, and after six months they receive access to online learning resources such as Udemy to support ongoing professional development. Dress and attire are consistent with a manufacturing and laboratory-support environment, requiring appropriate safety and cleanliness standards while working around microbiology testing plates and related equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lansing, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $53.00/hr.
