This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional with a minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience who is looking to broaden their experience and play an integral role in serving nonprofit and government clients. Unlike larger regional or national firms, where responsibilities are often highly segmented, our firm provides the opportunity to work closely with clients throughout the entire engagement lifecycle and become a trusted advisor. Position Overview The Nonprofit/Government Audit Senior will be responsible for all phases of attest engagements, including planning, fieldwork, supervision, and completion of audits, reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures. Additionally, during the peak tax season, this individual may be required to assist with the preparation of individual (Form 1040) and various business tax returns. This role includes supervising staff, managing engagement timelines and budgets, reviewing workpapers, and ensuring quality control standards are consistently met. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, prior nonprofit/government audit experience, and a foundational understanding of tax preparation. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee nonprofit and government attest engagements, including audits, reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures. Plan, execute, and complete engagements in accordance with GAAS, GAAP, and applicable professional standards. Assist with the preparation and review of personal (Form 1040), corporate, partnership, and nonprofit tax returns during the busy tax season. Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff accountants on both audit files and seasonal tax returns. Ensure engagements and tax assignments are completed accurately, efficiently, and within budgeted timeframes. Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and communication. Assist in staff development by providing training and coaching. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and security requirements. Stay current with accounting, auditing, and tax standards through continuing education and professional development. Contribute to the firm's culture of leadership, teamwork, integrity, and excellence. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Minimum 5 years of public accounting audit experience required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or actively tracking toward obtaining a CPA license is preferred. Experience with nonprofit and/or government auditing strongly preferred. Core knowledge of tax preparation for individuals and business entities. Strong knowledge of
GAAS, GAAP, FASB
standards, and general accounting principles. Ability to manage multiple audit engagements and tax deadlines simultaneously. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Commitment to delivering exceptional client service. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with Lacerte, CCH Engagement, and Knowledge Coach is a plus. Self-motivated, flexible, and intellectually curious.
