is seeking a qualified and motivated Internal Auditor

• School District Financial & Operational Services to join our Internal Audit Services team.

This position provides independent internal auditing and consulting services to school districts and BOCES throughout New York State, helping clients strengthen financial stewardship, internal controls, compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness. The Internal Auditor is responsible for planning, conducting, and reporting on audits of financial, operational, and compliance activities to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes, and organizational risk management. Rather than performing day-to-day accounting functions, this position focuses on evaluating financial operations, business processes, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Board policies, and administrative procedures. Responsibilities include reviewing accounting and financial processes, assessing the reliability and integrity of financial information, evaluating internal controls, identifying operational and compliance risks, and developing practical recommendations to improve efficiency, accountability, and organizational performance. The Internal Auditor works collaboratively with school district and BOCES leadership, management teams, and Boards of Education to strengthen fiscal oversight and support continuous improvement. The successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting principles and governmental financial operations, enabling them to effectively evaluate accounting records, financial transactions, and internal controls. Experience in accounting roles such as payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, or general accounting—particularly within a school district, BOCES, municipality, or other governmental organization—is highly desirable, as it provides the foundation necessary to understand governmental accounting systems and identify potential risks and control weaknesses. While the Internal Auditor must be comfortable interpreting financial information, this position does not perform routine accounting functions such as processing transactions, posting journal entries, maintaining ledgers, or preparing financial statements. Work is performed with a high degree of professional independence, integrity, and sound judgment in accordance with generally accepted internal auditing standards and established auditing practices. The incumbent is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in planning audit activities, evaluating findings, and presenting recommendations while working under general administrative direction. Supervision of others is not a regular responsibility of this position. Performs other related duties as assigned. Questar

provides Internal Audit Services to school districts and BOCES throughout New York State. Regular travel to client districts is required. Minimum Qualifications A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and less than one (1) year of accounting experience; OR B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field, including a minimum of eighteen (18) semester credit hours in accounting, and two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, payroll, accounts payable, finance, compliance, or operational review, preferably within a school district, BOCES, municipality, or other governmental organization; OR C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above. Questar
