Role Overview:
This is a senior level management position / Managing Director role, reporting to the Chief Auditor for Technology & Business Enablement and AI. As Chief Auditor for Artificial Intelligence, you will have a dual mandate: to audit AI and to build with AI. You will lead a dedicated team to provide independent assurance on AI/GenAI adoption across the firm and accelerate the integration of these technologies within Internal Audit itself. As a member of IA's T&BE and AI Leadership team, this role requires excellent executive communication skills to influence senior leaders and stakeholders. You must be able to distil complex AI concepts into clear, compelling narratives. This capability will be key in securing buy-in for pilots and driving adoptions, positioning IA as a forward-looking technology enabled function. A critical requirement is the ability to translate business needs into actionable technical solutions, bridging the gap between auditors, data scientist and technology teams.Key Responsibilities:
Architect aPioneering Assurance Strategy:
Design and deliver a comprehensive AI/GenAI assurance strategy covering governance, legal, regulatory, cyber, technology, model risk, and third-party systems. Provide independent assessment of the firm's AI/GenAI governance framework, operating model, and controls across the entire development lifecycle. Identify, evaluate, and incorporate coverage for risks unique to AI/GenAI, including bias, fairness, data privacy, hallucination, and adversarial attacks.Lead High-Impact Audit Delivery:
Coordinate and deliver multiple concurrent risk-based audit plans, ensuring timely, insightful, and high-quality audit reports. Lead the development of innovative, AI-enabled audit methods across prioritized domains. Ensure timely validation of regulatory and internal audit issues to address and resolve findings effectively.Drive Technological Transformation:
Define and champion the GenAI tooling strategy for Internal Audit, overseeing the prototyping, piloting, and integration of AI-powered audit accelerators. Partner with a network of IA teams to embed and scale AI/GenAI solutions across all work programs. Act as a design authority to ensure the integrity, scalability, and resilience of new AI tools in production. Engage at theHighest Levels:
Serve as a key advisor and point of contact for senior management, the Audit Committee, and global regulators on all AI-related audit matters. Provide independent reporting on AI/GenAI risks, findings, and strategic recommendations. Build and sustain open, constructive relationships with regulators, ensuring trust in the IA function's assurance.Build and Develop Elite Teams:
Lead, mentor, and develop two distinct specialist teams—the AI Assurance team and the AI Assurance Tooling & Execution team. Attract, build, and retain a diverse, high-caliber, industry-leading team. Partner with Learning & Development to design and deliver training on GenAI-enabled audit techniques, upskilling the entire IA function.Who You Are:
You are a pragmatic problem-solver and a forward-thinking leader with a deep understanding of both technology and risk. You excel at bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions and have a proven track record of driving change in complex, global organizations.Required Experience & Qualifications:
A minimum of 15 years of diversified management experience in audit, technology, or a data-focused role. Proven experience working with AI/ML systems, including model development, validation, and auditing. Strong understanding of internal audit standards (e.g., IIA Standards) and risk management frameworks (e.g., COSO). Deep knowledge of IT governance frameworks (e.g., COBIT, NIST) and key AI regulations (e.g., SR11-7, EU AI Act). Familiarity with MLOps principles, cloud-based AI/ML platforms, and AI-specific security risks. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred. Relevant certifications such as CISA, CIA, or CRISC are highly beneficial; AI-related certifications are a plus. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. Experience working with regulators and managing regulatory audits or inspections.
